my week in photos — week 22

My week in photos is a weekly post where I share some of the photos that I took during the week that (mostly) didn’t make it to my Instagram feed. I’m always looking for ways to improve my photography skills and welcome any comments.

This was a great week! We started off with a hike at one of our favorite dog friendly sites, Lair O’ the Bear. We went a different way this time and found a castle. My brother took that picture of me taking a picture of the castle. He thinks he’s being funny when he does that.

On the way home, we googled the castle. Evidently, it’s a place for hosting events like weddings. I was floored when I saw that they charge over $8,000 to host a weekday wedding. That’s WAY more than ours cost!

As a group, we’re really bad at taking selfies. Like, really bad. This was the third photo that we managed and I still had to go through the frames (thank goodness for “live” photos) to find a respectable picture. Even still, I think it’s important to take them because otherwise we wouldn’t have any photos of us together. Justin’s mom, an awesome woman all around, is coming to visit next month. I’ll probably ask her (hi, mom!) to take some new pictures for us and we’re planning on doing a photo walk together.

This picture of a dandelion might be the most perfect picture I’ve ever taken. I love how I was able to capture the sunset and individual parts of the flower all at once. I’m not usually one to toot my own horn (if you don’t consider the blog tooting my horn), but I’ve been working for the last year on learning how to use my iPhone to take much better pictures.

Lastly, the reason this post is a day late. We spend the day traveling yesterday. It was mostly uneventful, just long. It was also my last technical day of jobbing.

Every week, I fill out our white board calendar with the big stuff for the week. It helps keep our family in check and eliminates a lot of questions about what we’re doing and when. I also do a weekly meal plan on a separate calendar. Whatever I can do to keep us informed and organized.

How did your week go?

  1. That is a great photo of the dandelion. What version of the iPhone do you have? I have a 7 and I think the difference between the 7 and the 8 in terms of photos is pretty substantial. A friend is selling her used 8 in October, and I’m tempted. I originally got the 7 because it had a better camera then my iPod (I used a flip phone until then…uh, lifestyle inflation I guess), but I’m very very tempted by the 8’s camera.

    1. I have an iPhone 7. I just recently upgraded from an SE when my brother offered me his “old” phone for free as long as I fixed the screen. I don’t mind being a few generations behind on technology as long as I can still do all of the things I want/need to do. If you can get the 8 for a reasonable cost, I say go for it.
