monday musings: an ode to my water bottle

Oh, my stainless steel water bottle, how do I love thee. I’m sorry I cheated on you with the snazzy and classy glass water bottle that Justin got from his previous employer. I’m sorry that I took your dropability for granted and thought that your dents weren’t pretty or a sign of how much you cared for me.

For the second time in six months, I shattered a glass water bottle. Thankfully, the silicone sleeve kept all of the glass contained. But, my heart broke into a million pieces (like the bottle) when it hit the brick path. I was entralled by the glass bottle. It was pretty. It had a nice screw top that doubled as a quick watering bowl for Sisko on our walks. It had a wide mouth top that didn’t make a terrible sucking noise during the middle of yoga. Did I mention it was pretty?

My six-year old Klean Kanteen isn’t as pretty, but it’s definitely durable and functional. (P.S. one of the cool things about shopping Amazon a lot is that you know exactly when you bought something…) It has the perfect dent for my thumb, probably from the hundreds of times I’ve dropped it. It holds just the right amount of water to get me through a hot yoga class. It has prevented me from buying countless plastic water bottles over the years.

Good-bye classy glass water bottle. You were good to me. Welcome back into the fold, trusty stainless steel water bottle. We both know that you’ll always be there for me, even if I dared to upgrade your cap to be a closer match.
