my week in photos — week 20

My week in photos is a weekly post where I share some of the photos that I took during the week that (mostly) didn’t make it to my Instagram feed. I’m always looking for ways to improve my photography skills and welcome any comments.

I’m really happy with how this week went. I seem to be settling into a new routine filled with lots of hot tea, reading, writing, and tending my growing cadre of plants. It’s something I could definitely get used to.

Last Friday and Saturday, the Denver Botanic Gardens had their spring plant sale. A good friend asked if I wanted to join her and, while wasn’t planning on getting anything, I was up for a fact finding mission. Thanks to a show called Small Gardens, Big Dreams, I’ve been contemplating what I want from our new backyard patio. I won’t be able to plant anything this year because we aren’t moving until August (at the earliest), but I’m learning that half of gardening is in the planning.

I did end up buying a strawberry plant and a group of five succulents. I sort of couldn’t help mysef. Of course, new plants meant that I needed a place to keep them. After a trip to the home improvement store, I decided that I needed at least four more strawberry plants. I’m incorrigible, I know! My Denver-based brother and Justin are both super excited about the prospect of fresh strawberries. It’s a good thing since each plant could produce up to 200 (!) strawberries.

Other than buying plants that I really didn’t need but wanted anyway, the fact finding mission was successful. I’m considering getting several flowering vine plants for one walls in the patio. From what I understand, clematis is fairly easy to care for and will reward me with stunning flowers. The big question of where to put it has to do with it’s sunshine needs. I’m still not sure what the sun situation will be in the patio area.

Lastly, Sisko survived his ordeal at the vet. They were able to remove the mass on his eyelid just find and he’s recovering well. Little buddy has been sentenced to wearing the donut of despair for the next two weeks. He’s not wearing it in this photo because we were on a walk and it was pretty warm outside. I didn’t want him to sweat his little heart out.

How did your week go? Any big plans for next week?
